Lincoln has four main cemeteries - Newport Cemetery, in the "uphill" part of the City, and the Canwick Road Old, Canwick Road New and St. Swithin's Cemeteries, grouped along the northern side of Washingborough Road.

Although cremation is now the preferred means of dealing with the dead, between 200 and 250 burials still take place in the City's cemeteries each year. The City Council expects that rate will be maintained throughout the Plan period, and has planned accordingly by allocating land for the extension of the Canwick Road cemeteries.
