Feature/Facility 15 - Visitor Access

Description
Gibraltar Point NNR is the flagship reserve of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.  When the Trust became involved in the site during the 1950’s, it was already receiving large numbers of visitors despite the poor road access at the time.  Today, the reserve is seen as a valued tourism asset in the East Lindsey region and is within the top three most visited sites in Lincolnshire.  Annual visitor figures regularly top 180,000.  Peak visitor months are consistent with summer holiday periods from late July to early September.
Since the early days of management, the needs of visitors have long been realised and the trust has been at the forefront of reconciling visitor pressure with the high nature conservation value of the site.  Visitor numbers in general have been regulated by the capacity of the car parks, indeed, a middle car park was closed to enhance the management of visitor numbers and access.  The Trust have made provision for a range of facilities appropriate to large-scale public use.

Favourable Status
To allow all visitors wide-ranging and safe access, without compromising the ecological and aesthetic considerations of the nature reserve.
